BO'S WORK
“I’ve been busy…considering I would call myself a lazy person”, Bo says.
Bo is Special Envoy of the Secretary of State for Wildlife Trafficking. She travels the globe on behalf of the United States and the Coalition Against Wildlife Trafficking, a multinational coalition of member countries working together to fight the ten billion dollar black market of trafficking in endangered species.

She served as National Spokesperson for The Humane Society of the United States Disaster Relief.
Bo presented to the Government of Ecuador, two dogs specially trained to detect shark fin and sea cucumber to help aid in the fight against illegal poaching and trade, and to protect Ecuador’s shark and sea cucumber populations.

Bo also serves on the board of WildAid. A non-governmental organization uniquely focused on raising awareness to reduce the demand for threatened and endangered species products, and to increases public support of wildlife conservation.

She was appointed by the President of Ecuador to serve as Ambassador for the Yasuni Initiative. The Yasuni Initiative provides a solution for the threat posed by the extraction of crude oil in the Ishpingo-Tiputini-Tambococha (ITT) oil fields. The proposal contributes to preserving biodiversity, reducing carbon dioxide emissions, and respecting the rights of indigenous peoples. She was also appointed to the board of the Galapagos Conservancy, Ecuador, a non-profit organization to protect the Galapagos Islands, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
She served as Commissioner and Vice Chair of the California Horse Racing Board. Bo says it was a true honor to work on behalf of horse and rider welfare and safety from the inside of the industry. In addition, she serves on the board of The Disabled Jockey’s Foundation.

The U.S. Secretary of Veteran’s Affairs named Bo a National Honorary Chairperson for the Department of Veterans Affairs’ National Rehabilitation Special Events – six annual therapeutic and rehabilitative events designed to help veterans overcome their disabilities through competition, the hallmark of rehabilitative programs in the nation.
Bo was named Honorary Green Beret by the Special Forces Association, joining only four other Americans so honored, in recognition of her efforts on behalf of America’s men and women in uniform and U.S. military veterans. She participates in USO tours, entertaining U.S. military personnel serving abroad.

She served as Mistress of Ceremonies for the National Veteran’s Day Ceremony at Arlington National Ceremony.
President George W. Bush appointed Bo to the Kennedy Center Board of Trustees.

Bo is also a member of the Board of Governors of the International Conservation Caucus Foundation.
​
A published author, Bo wrote “Riding Lessons: Everything That Matters in Life I Learned from Horses.”
​
An avid horsewoman, she serves as spokeswoman (along with trainer Nick Zito) for the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act, which would ban horse slaughter and the transport of horses from the U.S. for the purpose of human consumption in other countries, and she was instrumental in the closing the three remaining horse slaughter plants in the country.
